Snapshot 6: Content, visual and system update
Winstick » Devlog
This time we have more of a general update rather than focusing on one specific aspect of the game, but the biggest is drops having a complete rework along with some new content.
Content:
- 2 new stationary enemies have been added, one that fires projectiles in a spiral pattern, and one that fires a beam.
- You can now unlock a new "Demolitionist" loudout. This loadout is slower, but has more health and better grenade capabilities.
- Added a system for item unlocks, previously there were only loadout unlocks.
- A new item "Spikes" can be unlocked.
- A new item "Bombling" can be unlocked.
- A new item "Flywheel Gear" has been added, which lets the player store charges of dodges/ramming, allowing for rapid dodges in sequence. This item is unlocked by default
Gameplay:
- Enemies that become offscreen will now teleport and approach the player from random directions, reducing crowding and reducing/removing the issue of enemies getting stuck inside objects or out of the room.
- Drops are now roughly (meaning there's still some chance to get a few extras or a bit less once in a while) spread out across the wave rather than on an enemies killed basis. This means that there's an even rate of drops across the game. This stops the player from being flooded with items once the spawnrate increases, which originally also had a side effect of making the store redundant as you could just always by every item in later waves.
- Consumables now have their own independent drop rates and do not replace items.
- Triple scrap is no longer part of the regular item drop table. Each scrap drop now has a chance to drop as a triple instead.
- Controller vibration support has been added, along with an accompanying setting to turn it off in the options menu.
- You now have a teeny tiny bit of invulnerability after dodging/ramming, so that you can make it out of unfortunate moves.
- Fixed enemies getting knocked back during the death screen if you got hit just after ramming.
- The room has been made smaller to accommodate stationary enemies better.
Systems
- Now that we have more stationary enemies, a system to support stationaries has been added. Amongst other things, it makes it so that multiple don't try to spawn in the same space and spreads out when spawning.
- Adding more rooms are now properly supported so that each rooms have their own spawn points and the game only considers spawning enemies in the current active room.
- How the game handles loadout starting items has been redone: instead of the ability of those items being unlocked, the items themselves are now silently given to the player instead. Previously players could keep getting unique mods they already have and would not be able to see their starting items in the overview.
Visuals
- Vector painting support has been added for walls and floors, allowing for quickly painting dirt masks into areas.
- The toon outlines are now an option you can turn on and are by default turned off.
- Robbie's tracks now appropriately spin on movement.
- Some pickups didn't update with the player when getting hurt, being invincible etc. All of the player's pickups now have a player specific version of their materials.
Other changes
- The volume of the engine noise has been slightly lowered.
- The scrap dropping volume has been rebalanced.
- Regaining dashes now has an accompanying sound effect.
- The Gyro has been rebalanced again and does not slow down the player as much when dashing.
Bugfixes / polish
- An issue where imps would stay invisible has been fixed.
- The loadout selection screen wouldn't update with the correct paint scheme when loading the player's previous selection.
- The Scopescanner's UI now properly hides when other interfaces are accessed, decluttering the overall UI.
- You are no longer stuck using the controller to navigate menus if you used a controller to enter the menu, you can press either left or right mouse button to start using the mouse again.
- A lot of grates were supposed to have fog/smoke graphics, but they would not show up during gameplay, this has been fixed.
- The markers for selected item in the shop would sometimes show up on items outside the shop, this has been fixed.
